Formation And Early Years

Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) was incorporated in 1963 as a private limited company. In January 1964, it became a public limited company under the Companies Act 1913, now known as The Companies Act 2017. Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX). The company acquired Sui-Multan System from Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) and Dhulian-Rawalpindi-Wah system from Attock Oil Company Limited. The Sui-Multan System has 217 miles of 16-inch and 80 miles of 10-inch diameter. When the company started doing business, it sold an average of 47 MMCFD of gas in two areas, Multan and Rawalpindi, to 67 different customers.

With a large network in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) serves more than 7.22 million customers in North Central Pakistan. It is the largest integrated gas company in the region and is ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 certified. Pakistan Environment Protection Agency (PAK-EPA) has linked 11 sites of SNGPL to the “SMART2” programme. The company has been operating and maintaining high-pressure gas transmission and distribution lines for over 50 years. As an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor, he has also grown to plan, develop and build pipelines for himself and other businesses.

The SNGPL system consists of more than 9,304.69 km of transmission lines, running from Sui in Balochistan to Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These are the main lines and the loop lines. 16 regional offices are responsible for distribution activities covering 5,284 major cities and towns in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The distribution system consists of 142,998 km of pipes. SNGPL has over 7.22 million customers in cement, fertilizer, general industrial, residential and commercial sectors. From July 2019 to June 2020, 623,724 MMCF of gas were sold to users annually.

Gas Consumer Categories and Payment Plan by SNGPL

Residential consumers:

  • Autonomous meters for all houses and flats that use gas for domestic needs.

Religious places, educational institutions and charitable organizations:

  • Mosques, churches, temples, madrasas, government and semi-government offices, hospitals, hostels, armed forces messes, langars, universities, institutes, schools, private educational institutions, orphanages and charitable institutions. Gas supply is done through bulk meters attached to these establishments.

Commercial Units:

  • All establishments registered as commercial units in local authorities or involved in direct commercial sales. This includes cafes, bakeries, dairies, tea stalls, eateries, barbershops, laundries, cinemas, clubs, theatres, private offices, clinics, maternity homes, etc.

Industrial consumers:

  • All industrial consumers involved in the processing of raw materials into finished value-added products, including the hotel industry (except for industries with separate prescribed rates).

Payment plan:

  • SNGPL offers a prepaid plan for all categories of consumers.
  • The plan includes a floating return equivalent to the six-month Karachi Interbank Offered Rate (KIBOR) minus 2%.
  • The term of advance payment is limited to one year according to management policy.
